Faculty Small Grants
These grants are for projects that will promote intellectual and professional engagement among faculty and students who are members of the African Studies community at the University of Chicago. Preference will be given to projects that involve faculty-student collaboration and that take place on campus; it is also possible for faculty and graduate students to coordinate and combine graduate student small grants with faculty small grants. In exceptional cases, funds may be awarded for individual projects, such as support for a research trip.
Participation in the African Studies Workshop is expected of applicants. Maximum award is $500, although exceptions may be made. Funds are limited, so apply early. Grants will be reviewed on a rolling basis as of September 15.
Please submit a one-page proposal to Professors Ralph Austen and François Richard that explains the purpose and goals of the project. Be sure to also include a budget, the proposed dates of the event or events, a list of individuals who will participate, and any other relevant information.
The Faculty Small Grants are made possible by support from the Office of the Provost.
