Many opportunities are available to undergraduates interested in learning more about Africa. Students can choose from a number of classes about Africa, taught by our faculty members. The African Civilization core in Paris, which now includes a week in Dakar, Senegal, offers a means to study Africa from abroad. In contrast to the African CIV sequence taught on campus, it focuses more on Africans in Europe and the historical connections between France and Africa. It is offered every other year, alternating with the Colonizations in Paris sequence. Many students also use internships and research grants to go to a particular African country, usually over the summer, to live, work and conduct research there. Our undergrad photo album is a great place to explore the variety of opportunies available to undergrads in African Studies at the University of Chicago.
