2024–25 African Studies Workshop Schedule

The schedule for the African Studies Workshop for the 2024–2025 school year has been announced. Click here to view the 2024–2025 ASW schedule.

The African Studies Workshop (ASW) is an interdisciplinary group made up of students and faculty researching the peoples of Africa and its diasporas, past and present. One of the workshop’s primary goals is to elucidate Africa’s dynamic relationship to a wider world and to chart the effects of these processes in various spheres of African life.

Though ASW is attended primarily by anthropologists, the workshop has active participants in the departments of Art History, English, Film Studies, History, Human Development, and Political Science. In addition to regular presentations by students, faculty, and invited guests, the workshop hosts biannual Red Lion Seminars jointly with Northwestern University’s Program of African Studies.

If you have questions about the workshop or need assistance in order to attend or access materials, please refer to the ASW Canvas site or contact Ryan Eykholt (Committee of African Studies program coordinator) at reykholt@uchicago.edu.
